Timber is a natural material and all trees contain natural features such as gum veins, knots and past borer activity. These features can add to the character and charm of the piece so, when choosing a grade, you are simply deciding on how much feature you desire.
The grade has no influence on fitness for purpose in terms of its manufactured moisture content, range or machining tolerance. These aspects are the same for each grade.
All grades permit some feature, and even ‘Select Grade’ may include some minor natural imperfections.
This grade contains features of a limited number and size. The effect is that features are observable but they do not dominate the overall appearance.
This grade is available on request. It is new timber which, depending on species chosen, exhibits higher levels of natural features including gum veins, knots, face checking and insect trails, and generally a larger range of colour variation, all of which have been filled and fared as appropriate prior to finishing. The rustic and random nature of feature grade timber is perfect for those who prefer a more natural appearance.
